Weekend predictions: Judas and the Black Messiah should win the weekend
February 12th, 2021
The welcome arrival of two new wide releases and the combination of Valentine’s Day on Sunday and President’s Day on Monday should cause an uptick at the box office this weekend. Judas and the Black Messiah is the film most likely to top the chart, according to our model, while Land is set for a more modest result but should make it into the top six.

Featured Blu-ray and DVD Review: Wonder Woman
October 8th, 2017
Wonder Woman is the fourth film in the DCEU and apparently it is one of the last. (Warner Bros. recently came out and said they would be focusing on individual stories and downplaying the overall continuity for a while. Smart move.) Wonder Woman broke a number of records during its box office run, including biggest box office hit for a female director, biggest super hero original movie, etc. and in the end, it was the biggest domestic hit of the summer. Did it deserve this success? Or was it only good compared to the previous installments in the DCEU?

DVD and Blu-ray Releases for December 2nd, 2014
December 2nd, 2014
It is a good week / bad week on the home market. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is the biggest and possibly the best release of the week and the 3D Combo Pack is a Pick of the Week contender. However, there are several other contenders, including two where I'm still waiting for the screener: Legend of Korra: Book Three - Change on DVD or Blu-ray and Star Trek: The Next Generation: Season Seven on Blu-ray. However, in the end I went with Mr. Smith Goes to Washington on Blu-ray.

Featured Blu-ray / DVD Review: A Most Wanted Man
November 4th, 2014
A Most Wanted Man is famous for a really negative reason. It is one of the last films starring Philip Seymour Hoffman released after his untimely death. It earned incredible reviews and did really well at the box office for a limited release, but it wasn't able to break into truly wide releases. Is the movie as good as its reviews? Or were critics quick to praise the film for its significance in Philip Seymour Hoffman's life?

These Limited Releases are Cursed
August 29th, 2014
It's not a great week for limited releases as there are only two films earning overwhelmingly positive reviews: The Congress and Starred Up. Both of those films are playing on Video on Demand as well, so their box office numbers are likely going to be weaker than their Tomatometer Scores. Cantinflas does have an outside shot at tenth place, so at least there's some good news as far as limited releases are concerned. Swearnet: The Movie might turn out to be the biggest hit of the weekend north of the border, but it doesn't open in the States till next month.

Limited Releases Go to Hell
September 6th, 2013
As usual the weekend after Labor Day, it's a very busy week in limited release. Unfortunately, it is a case of quantity over quality. There are a couple of films earning good reviews: a foreign language film, Populaire, and a documentary, Red Obsession. It is unlikely either of them will find a large enough audience in limited release that they will be able to expand significantly. On the other hand, Awards Season is just around the corner, so fans of limited releases won't have to wait long before they will be flooded with options.

Featured Blu-ray Review: The Princess Bride
October 25th, 2012
The 25th Anniversary Edition of The Princess Bride came out on Blu-ray at the beginning of the month, and since then three more versions have been released. I'm joking, but I do have a point. This film has been released on the home market more times than I can remember. It's not even the first time it has been released on Blu-ray. So is this edition worth picking up if you didn't grab it the first time? Is it worth the upgrade?
