Weekend predictions: Dead Reckoning headed for softer-than-expected debut

July 14th, 2023

Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One

Mission: Impossible, Dead Reckoning—Part One will need to pick up its pace over the weekend to come in close to pre-release expectations. Its Wednesday and Thursday numbers ($15.5 million and $8.3 million, respectively) are perfectly respectable, but they point to a five-day opening under $70 million, and a Friday–Sunday weekend well behind Mission: Impossible—Fallout’s $61.2 million back in 2018. Weekend predictions: Insidious headed towards surprise weekend win

July 7th, 2023

Insidious: The Red Door

Insidious: The Red Door looks likely to pull off a surprise win at the box office this weekend, pushing Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny into second place in its second weekend in theaters. With Sound of Freedom and Joy Ride also set for places in the top four, this will be a weekend where new releases at least partly make up for the poor performance of some recent box office misses. Weekend predictions: Indiana Jones shooting for $70 million this weekend

June 30th, 2023

The last tentpole adventure film to do that was probably 2017’s The Mummy, which stumbled out the gate with $31.6 million, in spite of having to cross a lower bar: Tom Cruise was “just” 54 when that film debuted. Indy will most likely come in somewhere around $70 million. More...
