Featured Blu-ray and DVD Review: Red Sparrow
May 21st, 2018
Red Sparrow is a spy thriller starring Jennifer Lawrence. It deals with the less sexy side of spying, focusing on how the women who are tasked with seducing their targets would have to live. That’s an interesting premise, but it is also one that could turn exploitative really easily. Does the film manage this balancing act? Or does it fall for cheap exploitation?

Limited and VOD Releases: High Water Mark
August 12th, 2016
This week’s list of limited releases is full of films that are earning good reviews, but not great reviews, and they will struggle to survive in limited release. Then there’s Hell or High Water. The film’s reviews are just shy of 100% positive and it is going to expand wide next week. It should have the most impressive opening out of all of the films on this week’s list. It might not even be close.

May 6th, 2016

Limited Releases are Going Psycho
November 23rd, 2012
It's a pretty light week for limited releases. Hitchcock is by far the biggest release, but its reviews are only mixed, so its box office chances are not strong. On the other hand, The Central Park Five is earning reviews that are strong enough that it should thrive, at least in limited release. It is very rare for a documentary to expand wide, even under the best of circumstances.
