The Lion King

The Lion King is scaring away all of the competition and while the Blu-ray / 4K Ultra HD is not Pick of the Week material, there’s almost nothing else to talk about. It might be worth buying WorldEnd: What Do You Do at the End of the World? Are You Busy? Will You Save Us?: The Complete Series just because of that ridiculously long name.

2019 NBA Champions: Toronto Raptors - No Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD or Blu-ray
This isn’t selling as well on Amazon.com as it is on Amazon.ca. I wonder why that is. On a more serious note, real fans want full games and not 90 minutes of highlights. Back to a less serious note, when Kawhi Leonard left Toronto to go the Clippers, the most common response I saw from fans of the Raptors was, ‘Thanks for the championship. You go get that paycheck.’ That’s a healthy fanbase.

Is It Wrong To Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon? Arrow Of the Orion - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD or Blu-ray
This franchise, which is commonly referred to by part of its Japanese name, Danmachi, because its full name is ridiculously long, is considered one of the better examples in the fantasy Anime genre and it is popular enough that this isn’t even the only movie made. This is arguably the better of the two movies, but it is a close call.

James Bond: Daniel Craig Collection - No Reviews - Buy from Amazon: 4KUltra HD Combo Pack
Why buy a box set for a collection that isn’t complete yet? I guess it makes sense if you recently upgraded to 4K and want the four films Daniel Craig starred in.

Kase-san And Morning Glories - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: Blu-ray
A romance Anime about two high school girls who connect due to their shared love of flowers.

The Lion King

The Lion King - Buy from Amazon: Blu-ray Combo Pack or 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack
Video on Demand (Movie Only)
Video on Demand (With Extras)
Video on Demand (4K Ultra HD)
A remake of the 1994 animated classic done in photo-realistic CGI. Does it work as a film? Or is it only good as a tech demo? Read our review for my opinion.

Wonder Woman: Bloodlines - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: Blu-ray Combo Pack or 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack
Video on Demand
The DC animated movies haven’t quite been up to their usual quality for a few years, but that seems to be changing as this film has earned great reviews. There are loads of extras on the Blu-ray, so if you are a fan of the character, then is it absolutely worth picking up.

Christmas Releases - Buy from Amazon:
Christmas at the Palace - No Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD
A Gingerbread Romance - No Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD
VeggieTales: The Best Christmas Gift - No Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD
There are only three Christmas releases on this week’s list, but I actually sort of want the VeggieTales release.

TV on DVD Releases - Buy from Amazon:

Bakugan: Battle Planet

Bakugan: Battle Planet - Origin of Species - Buy from Amazon: DVD
This is an animated show based on a toy line, I think. The first incarnation came out more than a decade ago, but the reboot started late last year. How is it?

Dan, Lia, and Wynton are three friends investigating the Great Collision when they stumble upon Bakugans, giant monsters that pop out of balls and fight each other. The three of them, and even their dog, get their own Bakugan and then work together to learn more about the Bakugans, but soon find a rival gang of bad guys to fight. It’s a standard setup for this type of show and the execution isn’t enough to elevate it beyond that point. It’s rather cheap looking and the fights are not well-choreographed or exciting enough to draw in viewers, who will likely grow tired of the repetitive nature.

Additionally, there are no extras on the DVD.

I’m not in the target audience for this show, nor have I seen the original version. However, I’ve seen enough similar shows to judge this one and I can tell it is not among the best.

Charmed: The Complete Second Season - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: Blu-ray
NOS4A2: Series 1 - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD or Blu-ray
Shetland: Series 5 - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD
Veronica Mars Reboot: Season One - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD or Blu-ray
I’m not 100% sure Charmed is coming out on Blu-ray this week. Amazon has it as a Blu-ray, DVD... and paperback. Yeah, something’s not right there.

Zoltan… Hound of Dracula aka Dracula's Dog - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD or Blu-ray
There are a lot of horror films on this week’s list, but only Crimson Peak is truly worth owning.

3D Blu-ray Releases - Buy from Amazon:
Parasite 3-D - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: 3D Combo Pack
There is a 3D release this week, but it is a really bad low-budget horror movie from the 1980s.

4K Ultra HD Releases - Buy from Amazon:
Charlie’s Angels - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack
Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack
There are only two secondary VOD titles and neither of them are really worth owning. I am a little more optimistic about the upcoming reboot.

Video on Demand - Buy from Amazon:
Blinded by the Light - Reviews - Video on Demand
The Kitchen - Reviews - Video on Demand
Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark - Reviews - Video on Demand
Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark - Reviews - Video on Demand (4K Ultra HD)
Three of the four secondary VOD release of the week are worth checking out.
