Spider-Man: Far from Home

Spider-Man: Far from Home made its international debut the weekend before its domestic start earning $111.20 million on 35,187 screens in three markets. Those three markets where led by China, where it earned $97.72 million on 34,300 screens. It was also very potent in Japan with $9.36 million on 465 screens and in Hong Kong with $4.12 million on 422.

Toy Story 4 was relatively close behind with $80.6 million in 45 markets for totals of $259.6 million internationally and $498.3 million worldwide. The film has earned enough worldwide that Disney’s share of the box office is more than it cost to make, so it should be wildly profitable once it is done its initial push into the home market. The film opened in first place in France with $7.0 million, while it also did well in Italy with $1.82 million over the weekend for a total opening of $2.30 million. The film opens in Japan not this coming weekend, but next weekend, while it opens in Germany next month.

Annabelle Comes Home opened in third place with $47.2 million on 15,450 screens in 63 markets. This includes Mexico, where it earned $7.0 million on 2,660 screens, but had to settle for second place to Toy Story 4. On the other hand, it dominated in Indonesia with $4.9 million on 1,150 screens. The film also had multi-million dollar openings in India ($2.6 million on 1,650 screens); Russia ($2.55 million on 1,880 screens); Malaysia ($2.2 million on 487 screens); Vietnam ($2.1 million on 623 screens); and South Korea ($2.08 million on 654 screens).

Aladdin was finally knocked out of second place and into fourth with $24.4 million in 55 markets over the weekend for totals of $568.3 million internationally and $874.9 million worldwide. $900 million globally is guaranteed at this point, while I have no doubt it will get to $950 million as well.

The Secret Life of Pets 2 returned to the top five in fifth place with $12.1 million in 51 markets for totals of $92.0 million internationally and $223.6 million worldwide. It was aided by a first place, $2.28 million debut on 723 screens in Germany, while it also topped the charts in Poland with $1.30 million on 237. It had to settle for third place in Brazil, but still managed a relatively healthy $1.56 million on 676 screens during its debut there.
