Featured Blu-ray and DVD Review: Satanic
October 2nd, 2016
It’s the first week in October, so there’s no better time to review a horror film. This is one of the reasons I choose to review Satanic. Also, the film stars Sarah Hyland from Modern Family and I like her in that show. On the other hand, it was a really small release. There were no reviews on Rotten Tomatoes when it came out; there wasn’t even a page on Wikipedia. So is this an undiscovered gem?

Featured TV on DVD Review: Modern Family: Season Seven
September 19th, 2016
The seventh season of Modern Family had the lowest ratings since the first season. It was also the worst season in terms of major awards. Has the show jumped the shark? Or is it still a great sitcom, even if it is no longer the best sitcom on TV?

Featured TV on DVD Review: Modern Family: Season Six
September 28th, 2015
Modern Family has been one of the best and most popular sitcoms on TV for each of its five previous seasons. In fact, it has won five Outstanding Comedy Series Emmys in a row, tying the record. Is it still the best sitcom on TV? And how are the extras on the DVD?

Featured Blu-ray Review: Sleeping Beauty
October 4th, 2014
This is not the first time I've reviewed Sleeping Beauty. It is not the first time I've reviewed the film on Blu-ray. The previous review was almost exactly six years ago. This review is less about the movie and more about the differences in the two Blu-ray releases.

Limited Releases: Easy Cash for Limited Releases
February 14th, 2014
There are lots of films on this week's list of limited releases, but only one of them, The New Black, is earning overwhelmingly positive reviews. The Returned is earning overall positive reviews, but that's not enough to thrive in limited release. In fact, given the competition, it is unlikely there is any film that will earn breakout success.

2014 Preview: February
January 31st, 2014
After a weak start, January rebounded and a couple of films on last month's preview cracked $100 million at the box office. Granted, Lone Survivor is technically a December release, but Ride Along will become one of the rare January releases to reach the century mark. Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be too many February releases that have a real shot at $100 million. It is very likely that The Lego Movie will reach that milestone, but most of the rest of the movies will be lucky if they reach $50 million. Last February was very similar. We had one surprise $100 million hit, Identity Thief, plus a couple of solid midlevel hits, Warm Bodies, for instance. However, for the most part, the month was one miss after another. This means 2014 could continue its winning ways, or at the very least, shouldn't fall behind 2013's pace.

Featured TV on DVD Review: Modern Family: Season Four
October 12th, 2013
Recently, Modern Family won its fourth Outstanding Comedy Series at the Prime Time Emmys. This puts it just one behind Frasier for the all-time lead in that category. It has three Emmys for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series, putting it one behind M*A*S*H* in that category. It "only" has two nominations for Emmys for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, but it won both times. It has also earned nearly two dozen nominations for various acting categories, including five wins. It is easily the most acclaimed comedy series on TV at the moment, and despite being on the air for just four season so far, it is one of the most acclaimed comedy series of all time. This creates incredibly high expectations. Is it possible to live up to these expectations? Or will the show start to disappoint?
