Weekend projections: Superman packs $122-million punch on opening weekend

July 13, 2025

Superman

Superman is flying towards a $122-million opening weekend, according to Warner Bros.’ Sunday-morning prediction. That’s a little below where our model had it on Friday morning, but still a spectacular start: it’s the third-best weekend of 2025, and technically knocks Man of Steel off its pedestal as the top-grossing Superman movie on opening weekend, although that 2013 outing is easily the best for the franchise when adjusted for inflation. Its international performance is a little more of a concern, with a more muted $95-million debut.

Here are the official studio projections for the three-day weekend (click the image for a full chart of all films reporting so far):

Superman has an excellent A- CinemaScore, with the 28% of the audience under 25 years old giving it an A. The ethnic mix is 51% Caucasian, 22% Hispanic, 14% African-American, 8% Asian, and 5% Native-American/Other, per Warner Bros.. Premium formats represented around 47% of opening-weekend business, with strong results from IMAX and Dolby Cinema, PLF/Premium Large Formats, and Motion Seating. 3D share is 13%, led by RealD.

Internationally, Superman has bagged $9.8 million from the United Kingdom, and $8.8 million from Mexico. The only other territories to top $5 million so far are China, with $6.6 million; Brazil, $5.9 million; and Australia, $5.3 million. Superman is opening with $217 million worldwide, with $95 million internationally.

By way of comparison, Jurassic World Rebirth debuted with $171 million internationally, and $318 million worldwide last weekend. It has $62.7 million from China, $26.4 million from the UK & Ireland, and $22.8 million from Mexico. It has topped $10 million in eight territories so far, and earned over $108 million worldwide this weekend to take its global total to $529.463 million, with $297.349 million coming from overseas.
