Theater Averages: Where’s The $10,000 Club?

September 26, 2019

Where’s My Roy Cohn?

The $10,000 Club didn’t have many members this week and none of them were really able to shine. Where’s My Roy Cohn? did the best with an average of $10,591 in four theaters. Meanwhile the overall number one film, Downton Abbey, was close behind with an average of $10,079.

There was a large gap between those films and the next best new limited release. Loro was the best of the rest with an opening of $5,317 in one theater. Midnight Traveler struggled even more with $3,549 in one theater over the weekend; however, it was a Wednesday release and managed $5,760 over five days. Promare earned an average of $2,833 in 31 theaters over the weekend, which at first glance doesn’t look good. However, the film had a special engagement on Tuesday, so this result is better than anticipated. Tazza: One Eyed Jack was the first of four films to miss the Mendoza Line with an average of $1,870 in 22 theaters. Britt-Marie Was Here was even weaker with an average of $1,363 in 3 theaters. Midnight Diner missed the Mendoza Line by a factor of two with an average of just $835 in 13 theaters. The Zoya Factor was the weakest on this list with an average of just $795, but it was playing in 100 theaters, so it is not as bad as some of the other films on this list.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • Official Secrets got to $1 million before the weekend and it has a good shot at $2 million.
  • Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice also made it to $1 million before the weekend and it also has a good shot at $2 million.
  • Brittany Runs a Marathon hit $4 million before the weekend and $5 million over the weekend. It is going to start losing theaters rapidly at this point, but it should still get to $6 million before too long.
  • The Peanut Butter Falcon made it all the way to $15 million, but that’s probably as far as it will go.
