2018 - Awards Season: Golden Globes - Winners
January 7, 2019
The Golden Globes were the first major Awards Season ceremony this year handing out the hardware on Sunday night. Are last night’s events a strong indicator for the Oscars? I hope not! Certainly not in all categories, as there were some puzzling results last night.
The categories and winners are...
BEST MOTION PICTURE - DRAMA
BEST MOTION PICTURE - COMEDY OR MUSICAL
BEST DIRECTOR
BEST SCREENPLAY
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE - DRAMA
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MOTION PICTURE - DRAMA
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MOTION PICTURE - COMEDY OR MUSICAL
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE - COMEDY OR MUSICAL
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A MOTION PICTURE
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A MOTION PICTURE
BEST ANIMATED FEATURE FILM
BEST FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM
BEST ORIGINAL SCORE
BEST ORIGINAL SONG
Notes and Reactions...
- Bohemian Rhapsody was easily the weakest of the ten Best Drama / Best Comedy or Musical nominees, but it won the most prestigious award of the night.
- Green Book was the most obvious choice for Best Comedy / Musical, but not the right choice. Also, winning Best Screenplay is even worse, due to the changes to the real life events depicted in the movie.
- I can’t complain about Alfonso Cuarón winning Best Director for Roma, but I was rooting for Spike Lee. Roma also won for Best Foreign-Language Film, which is no surprise.
- I disagree with every Actor award and agree with every Actress award. I’m most excited about Glenn Close winning for The Wife and I hope this is a sign she will finally win an Oscar.
- Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse won Best Animated Feature. Some are calling it the best Super Hero movie of all time, so this is a deserved win.
