2015 - Awards Season: BAFTA - Winners - Revenant and Mad Max Lead the Way
February 15, 2016
The BAFTA awards were handed out over the weekend. There were two main winners, The Revenant, which won most of its five awards in the high-prestige categories, and Mad Max: Fury Road, which earn all four of its awards in technical categories. It appears the Oscars will be very similar in that breakdown.

Notes and Reactions...
The Revenant won the most prestigious awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. I think in ten years most people will think this was an oversight and that the voters rewarded the movie for how difficult the shoot was and not how good the final product was. On the other hand, I still hope Leonardo DiCaprio finally wins an Oscar. He really has no competition.
Mad Max: Fury Road came in second place with four wins, all in technical categories. I think it will have a similar run on Oscar night.
On the other hand, Bridge of Spies only earned one win and Carol was shut out, despite earning two nominations each.
Ex Machina also got shut out, which is more disappointing to me, because it clearly deserved at least two wins (Best British Film and Best Film by a British Newcomer), while Alicia Vikander should have won for Best Supporting Actress. (Kate Winslet was the safe choice, not the best choice.)
Inside Out winning for Best Feature-Length Animated Film was the least surprising event of the night.
Likewise, Amy's win wasn't a surprise and it is the favorite to win the Best Feature-Length Documentary Oscar.
