Synopsis
The tale and fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter, a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter. Under Baxter’s protection, Bella is eager to learn. Hungry for the worldliness she is lacking, Bella runs off with Duncan Wedderburn, a slick and debauched lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation.

Weekend predictions: Aquaman leads a cavalcade of new releases on Christmas weekend

With ten films opening or expanding wide over five days, one might think we’ll see records broken this Christmas weekend. Alas, it doesn’t look as though there’s a standout film in the pack, although there’s certainly plenty to choose from. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set to take the crown, and five out the top six will be new in wide release according to our model. So there’s lots to dig into today.

The movie gods have put together another mix of interesting, but hard to predict, new releases this weekend, led by Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron. After the success of the rather different Godzilla Minus One last weekend, Japanese films are having a bit of a moment, and those two will likely both be in the top four by the end of the weekend. Where they land exactly is a little harder to predict.
