International Details: Flightplan has Bumpy Landing
December 11th, 2005
Flightplan fell out of the top five with $5.13 million on 2,430 screens in 38 markets for a total of $94.65 million on the international scene. It did fall from second to sixth on this week's charts, but it should still reach $100 million by this time next week. Its best market of the weekend was the U.K. where it remained in second place with $2.14 million on 416 screens for a two-week total of $6.59 million. May 1st, 2005
It was a good news, bad news kind of weekend for Constantine. The film remained in top spot in Japan with $2,330,027 on 349 screens for a $9,011,671 running tally in the market. Bad news, it dropped 37% during its second weekend in the market, which is really steep for Japan. Overall the film brought in $3 million on 1,200 screens in 40 markets for a international box office of $136.4 million. More...Hitch still Connecting with Moviegoers
April 24th, 2005
Hitch is just coasting on holdovers now, and will be until it opens in Japan at the beginning of June. This week it added $5.1 million from 3000 screens in 55 markets to its already impressive $170.4 million international total and with soft week to week drop-offs and a good showing in Japan and it will have a $200 million future. This week the film added $643,359 in its fifth weekend in France for a $12,785,670 total in the market, $110,000 in its second weekend in Argentina, (rising to first place in the meantime) as well as other, smaller markets. January 10th, 2005
Every week films get a second chance at success from the home market; or, in some cases, a first chance at success. Here is a list of wide releases, limited releases and a few from the growing TV on DVD section, including the winners of the DVD Pick of the Week, Monk - The Complete Second Season - Buy from Amazon and Leon - The Deluxe Edition - Buy from Amazon More...Beating the Odds
September 10th, 2004
Historically speaking, the weekend after the Labor Day long weekend tends to be the slowest weekend of the year. But this year looks to buck the odds, as we should see a slight bounce from last weekend. And this increase should be thanks entirely to one movie, while this week's other new release will have to settle for a distant second place. The rest of the top five, and indeed the top ten, will finish way back but within a couple million of each other. More...Box Office Struggles over Labor Day Weekend
September 7th, 2004
Labor Day Weekend is generally the second slowest weekend of the year (the slowest weekend of the year is usually the weekend after Labor Day). This year we saw more films open than usually do, but none of them opened well enough to be considered a real success. This resulted in a serious drop-off from last weekend of 14.4%. The year-to-year comparisons are a little off since Labor Day occurred a week earlier last year. Compared to Labor Day 2003, 2004 was off 13.5% for the 3-day frame and 14.4% for the 4-days.

Busy Labor Day Long Weekend
September 3rd, 2004
It's another weekend with lots of movies, but again the average theatre count is under 2000. But unlike last weekend when three of the four films were brutally attacked by critics, this week we have a perfect record, all four films are being brutally attacked by critics. At least the ones the critics got to see. I figure this weekend one film will do enough to be considered a success, or sorts, two will fail, and one will fail spectacularly. September 1st, 2004
Yikes. September has historically been a dumping ground for bad films and this year looks no different. September is also a very hard month to write a preview for; there are more than a dozen films, but very few of them have received any advanced buzz, good or bad, making predicting their chances very hard indeed.
