Theater Counts: Black Widow poised to remain widest release, but Space Jam close behind

After snagging over $100 million in domestic theatrical earnings in its first six days, Black Widow returns this week with an additional 115 theaters (totaling 4,275), securing its place once again as the widest release of the week. One of three new wide releases this week is the live action/animated hybrid comedy, Space Jam: A New Legacy, starring current NBA legend LeBron James. The film debuts this week in 3,950 locations. The original Space Jam, which starred another NBA icon in Michael Jordan, scored $250 million worldwide when it was released back in November of 1996.

Theater Counts: Black Widow will debut in 4,160 theaters

After two weeks on top of both the box office charts and the theater count list, F9: The Fast Saga will take a back seat to the long-awaited arrival of Black Widow. The film from Walt Disney Pictures and Marvel Studios will debut in 4,160 theaters and will also be available to order on Disney+ with Premier Access. That theater count is a shade lower than the 4,179 theaters F9 opened in over the June 25 weekend, but still the second best of the pandemic era.
