Limited and VOD Releases: Big Short Looks to Stand Tall

Earlier this week, The Big Short picked up two SAG nominations and four Golden Globe nominations and now it is opening in limited release. It arguably has louder buzz than the rest of this week’s limited releases combined, and the reviews to back it up. Outside of this film, both The Boy and the World and The Girl in the Book deserve to find an audience.

Limited Releases: The Good Life

It is a busy week with several releases spread over three days. Unfortunately, most movies opening this week are earning weak reviews and many of them have almost no reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. The lack of buzz and the weak critical response will likely prove fatal. Fortunately, there is an exception as Life Itself is earning amazing reviews. A Hard Day's Night is also worth checking out, as it is getting a 50th anniversary.

Featured Blu-ray / DVD Review: The Motel Life

The Motel Life opened in limited release, as well as Video on Demand, back in November of last year. It earned good reviews, but not great reviews, and failed to find an audience in theaters. Granted, most films that open on Video on Demand fail to find an audience in theaters, but would this film have struggled even if it debuted in theaters without the Video on Demand? Or is it not strong enough for limited release?
