2015 Awards Season: SAG Nominations

The Screen Actors Guild nominations were announced today and there are at least a few surprises to talk about. Trumbo led the way with three nominations, but there were six films with two nods apiece. Six!

• Straight Outta Compton is arguably the biggest surprise in the Best Ensemble Cast category, as it is the only wide release of the group.
• Helen Mirren picked up two nominations, one for Woman in Gold and the other for Trumbo.
• Sarah Silverman was nominated for her performance in I Smile Back, which is a surprise, as the movie didn’t get very good reviews. She was clearly the best part of an average movie, but that rarely enough to pick up a major nomination.
• Lily Tomlin got snubbed, again. I would have voted for her ahead of both Sarah Silverman and Helen Mirren in Best Lead Actress.
• At nine years old, Jacob Tremblay isn’t the youngest person nominated for a SAG, but he’s close. Dakota Fanning holds that record at seven years old.
