Featured Blu-ray and DVD Review: Avengers: Infinity War - Spoiler / Detail Free Review
August 14th, 2018
Like we did with The Force Awakens, we are going to do a spoiler-free, detail-free review for Avengers: Infinity War. In other words, we are going to rate all of the movies in the MCU to see where Infinity War and the rest fit into place.

Limited Releases: Limited Releases are Barely Here
May 29th, 2015
There are not a lot of films on this week's list; however, there are several that are earning overwhelmingly positive reviews. Heaven Knows What and I Believe in Unicorns are both coming of age films. Tu dors Nicole and Wet Bum are both Canadian films, the latter of which is only playing in Canada at the moment. Finally, there's Results. Its reviews are not as good as the other four, but its chances of earning some measure of mainstream success is likely greater.

Featured Blu-ray / DVD Review: The Rover
September 23rd, 2014
The Rover opened in limited release and opened really well, but the next weekend, its per theater average collapsed as it tried to expand and it barely crossed $1 million before leaving theaters. Is this a sign that the film only has appeal to a very limited audience? Or did the distributor try and expand the film way too soon and way too fast?

Limited Releases: Signaling Defeat
June 13th, 2014
Just a quick look at the list of limited releases coming out this week you will find more than a few that are earning great reviews. However, you will also find more than a few that are earning more negative reviews than positive ones. Of the ones earning fantastic reviews, most don't have a lot of buzz. I'm not sure any will be a breakout hit. Both The Amazing Catfish and Burning Bush are earning perfect reviews, so hopefully they will at least do relatively well.

Limited Releases: Looking for the Perfect Limited Release
April 11th, 2014
This weekend is almost as busy for limited releases as last week, and on the plus side, there are a handful of films that are worth checking out. Only Lovers Left Alive and Joe are both earning great reviews. On the other hand, Only Lovers Left Alive is probably too "Art House" to thrive, while Joe is opening too wide and on Video on Demand, so its box office chances are also limited. Dancing in Jaffa is earning perfect reviews, but documentaries rarely have breakout success. Finally, Disco Singh could be a surprise hit, as it could be on track to break records in its native India.

Featured Blu-ray / DVD Review: Iron Man 3
September 23rd, 2013
Iron Man 3 was the first Marvel Comics movie since The Avengers broke records. Expectations for this film rose dramatically as a result of that film's box office success, not to mention its critical acclaim. Can Iron Man 3 live up to these expectations? Or has The Avengers set the bar too high?

2013 Preview: May
May 1st, 2013
As April ends and summer begins, we see the 2013 box office on a losing streak. There is some good news, as May should be much, much, much better than April was. Much better. During the five weekends in May, there are nine films opening wide. Of those film, there are seven that at least have a shot at $100 million. And of those seven films, four at least have a shot at $200 million, two have a shot at $300 million, and we might even have a $400 million hit this month. Iron Man 3 should turn out to be the biggest hit of the month, while there are some who think Star Trek: Into Darkness could be a close competitor for that honor. There's also some bad news. The Avengers opened last May and earned more than $600 million. No film opening this month will come close to that figure. There's a chance the top two films opening this month won't match that combined. On the other hand, last year there was a huge drop-off from the biggest hit of the month to the second biggest hit of the month. There were so many high-profile failures last year, that 2013 might actually start winning some weekends in the year-over-year comparison.
