Featured TV on DVD Review: Police Squad: The Complete Series
April 13th, 2020
I got a screener this week. I didn’t think that would happen until the Covid-19 outbreak at least calmed down and since last week the Canadian government said restrictions could last until the end of June, I thought that would be a long wait. However, not only did I get a screener just before the weekend, it is for the Blu-ray release for Police Squad: The Complete Series. I already own the show on DVD, but is it worth getting on Blu-ray?

Home Market Releases for March 3rd, 2020
March 5th, 2020
It’s a terrible week on the home market with almost no prime new releases. In fact, if there weren’t a couple of late screeners to talk about and several secondary VOD titles, the main list would be very short. The week is so weak that Jojo Rabbit is really the only choice for Pick of the Week, even though it came out about a month ago.

Featured Blu-ray / DVD Review: Hotel Transylvania 2
January 10th, 2016
Hotel Transylvania came out a few years ago. It cost $85 million to make, which is a lot of money by nearly every definition, but relatively cheap for a digitally animated film. The reviews were mixed, but it was a big financial hit. It came as no surprise that there was a sequel. Hotel Transylvania 2 did better than its predecessor in nearly every way, but it is still a second-tier digitally animated film. For a second-tier film like this to succeed, all it needs to do is entertain the kids while not making the parents want to flee the room right away. That's not a particularly high bar to set. Does this film manage to get above that bar?

2015 Preview: September
September 1st, 2015
As September begins, the box office is in a slump. August was terrible and only Straight Outta Compton escaped with its dignity intact. Fortunately, we expected August to be terrible, so the box office isn't any lower than anticipated. As for September, there are two wide releases expected to earn more than $100 million, which is better than most years. Those two films are Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials and Hotel Transylvania 2, both sequels. There are four other films that could become midlevel hits, so we have good depth as well. By comparison, last September there were also two $100 million hits, The Maze Runner and The Equalizer. However, there were only two midlevel hits, so it appears this year has better depth. Frankly, 2015 has such a large lead over 2014 that all it needs to do is maintain pace for the rest of the year to be considered a success. If September can help 2015 grow its lead, then the overall industry should be very happy.

Featured TV on DVD Review: Dora the Explorer: Dora in Wonderland

It is been more than six months since I reviewed any Dora the Explorer, but this week Dora in Wonderland comes out on DVD. What episodes are found on the DVD and is it worth the asking price?

Featured Blu-ray Review: The Muppet Movie
August 11th, 2013
The Muppet Movie came out 34 years ago, which makes it a little strange they are releasing a 35th Anniversary edition Blu-ray this week. Then again, I'm glad I don't have to wait another year to get this movie on Blu-ray, because I loved it as a kid. Does it still hold up decades later? And is the Blu-ray worth picking up if you are a fan of the movie?

DVD and Blu-ray Releases for May 21st, 2013
May 23rd, 2013
It's an abridged list of DVD and Blu-ray releases report this week due to technical difficulties. The best selling new release of the week is True Blood: The Complete Fifth Season on Blu-ray Combo Pack, which is certainly worth owning for fans. However, the best releases are the Hayao Miyazaki Double-Shot, Howl's Moving Castle on Blu-ray Combo Pack and My Neighbor Totoro on Blu-ray Combo Pack. Most prefer the former, but I prefer the latter.
