Theater counts: Bond is back, and in 4,407 theaters this weekend
October 7, 2021
The latest Bond movie has finally reached North American shores and hits theaters in large fashion, arriving in a massive 4,407 theaters, which places it 14th on the all-time widest openings list (coming in one spot, and one theater more than 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker). No Time to Die’s opening count also towers over its predecessor, Spectre by nearly 500 theaters. Worldwide, the film has already scored over $121 million ($35 million in the United Kingdom alone).
Last week’s widest release and box office winner, Venom: Let There Be Carnage will keep its opening count of 4,225 going into this week. The film has already amassed $106 million domestically. Along with No Time to Die, United Artists Releasing has another film in the top three in The Addams Family 2, which also debuted last week and will retain its count of 4,207 theaters going into this week. Lastly, Shang-Chi drops this week from 3,455 to 2,800 locations…
New in limited release is The Rescue, opening in six locations. The film chronicles the enthralling, against-all-odds story that transfixed the world in 2018: the daring rescue of twelve boys and their coach from deep inside a flooded cave in Northern Thailand. Also debuting this week is Mass from Bleecker Street Media. The film starring Jason Isaacs, Martha Plimpton, Reed Birney and Ann Dowd arrives in four theaters.
Next week horror legend Michael Myers is back as the latest Halloween film arrives in an estimated 3,600 theaters. Halloween Kills follows Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode as she and other survivors of Myers join a group to hunt down the infamous killer. Also opening wide next week is the historical drama, The Last Duel. The film set in the 14th century and starring an all-star cast including Matt Damon, Adam Driver, Jodie Comer and Ben Affleck, debuts in an estimated 3,000 cinemas.
Note: Warner Bros. have not announced theater counts.
