Theater Averages: Chart Relies on Leftovers

December 4, 2019

Frozen II

Wide releases thrive over Thanksgiving. Limited releases aren’t so lucky. Frozen II led the way on the theater averages with an average of $19,364. 63 Up opened with $13,956 over the three day weekend and $18,721 over five, while playing in one theater.

There were very few other new limited releases to even release numbers. The re-release of Kind Hearts and Coronets earned $8,004 in one theater over the weekend, $10,182 if you include Thursday. The only other limited release that released numbers was Sympathy for the Devil, which earned an average of $2,024 in six theaters over the weekend.

There was only one Theater Average Chart alumni to hit a major milestone this past week. Honey Boy made it to $1 million before the weekend, but its theater average is low enough that it won’t expand further. It should still get to $2 million, unless it collapses this coming weekend.
