Toy Story 4

It’s another week with a monster hit and nearly nothing else. Fortunately, that monster hit is Toy Story 4, which is easily the Pick of the Week and would be during all but the best weeks of the year. Midsommar comes close to being a contender for Pick of the Week, but the extras are well below average, even compared to a limited release.

Anna and the Apocalypse - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: Blu-ray
Video on Demand
According to Amazon, the DVD came out last week and the Blu-ray comes out on Friday.

Annabelle Comes Home - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD or Blu-ray Combo Pack
This film really underperformed at the box office, but did quite well with critics, especially for a horror film that is part of a franchise. Films like this usually wear out their welcome with critics. Extras include a couple of making of featurettes, a behind-the-scenes featurette, deleted scenes, and more. It is worth picking up for fans of the franchise and worth checking out for fans of horror in general.

Deadwood: The Movie - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD or Blu-ray
This TV movie earned amazing reviews, but I also heard more than a few people complain there were too many characters in the movie that were there because you couldn’t have a Deadwood movie without them and not because they added to the plot. Even so, it is still worth picking for fans of the show.

Dragon Ball Super: Part Nine - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD or Blu-ray
This is one of the most prolific and one of the most popular Anime franchises around. It sells so well that I have to say something about it, but it has appeared on this list so many times that I ran out of things to say about it years ago. It does have an interview featurette, which is better than most Anime releases have.

From Beyond the Grave - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: Blu-ray
A horror anthology starring Peter Cushing. It’s not as good as it sounds.

Life with Lucy: The Complete Series

Life with Lucy: The Complete Series - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD
This is the third or fifth Lucille Ball TV series, depending on how you categorize shows like The Lucy–Desi Comedy Hour. It was also the only show of hers that wasn’t a critical or ratings success. Why did it fail in 1986? And has it aged well in the years since then?

Age is the most common issue raised with Life With Lucy, as Lucille Ball was 75 years old when the show started and a lot of people were worried that she would hurt herself doing the same physical comedy she was known for in her earlier shows. This is a problem, but I was more concerned with the lack of evolution in her comedy. It was just more of the same and not as well done as before. Furthermore, it hasn’t aged well; while the style of comedy was something we’ve seen from Lucille Ball before, the quality was strictly mid-80s sitcom and that is not a compliment.

The show was promoted quite heavily before its debut and the second disc of this set includes 20 minutes of promo segments on shows like Entertainment Tonight. Also, the show was canceled after just eight episodes were aired, but thirteen were produced and all of them are on this two-disc set. This is the first time you can see the unaired episodes and that might be enough to be worth picking up for fans of Lucille Ball who have the rest of her TV shows already. Even then, it will be more of a curiosity and I can see a lot of people who buy this DVD watching it only once and just keeping it with the rest of her shows to complete their collection.

Toy Story 3 was such a perfect ending to the franchise that many thought this film would retroactively hurt the franchise. Was that the case? Or could this film pull off a miracle and be the best film in the franchise? Read our review for my oppinion.
