Friday Estimates: Spider-Man’s Place on Top is not in Jeopardy
July 13, 2019
Spider-Man: Far From Home will have no competition for top spot on this weekend’s chart, which was expected. Fortunately, it beat expectations at the box office with $13.65 million on Friday and Sony is projecting a $43.35 million sophomore stint. Its reviews and its A from CinemaScore obviously has had a positive effect on the film’s word-of-mouth and the film will have no trouble steaming past $300 million soon.
Toy Story 4 also topped expectations with $6.25 million on Friday, putting it on pace for between $22 million and $23 million over the weekend.
Crawl slipped a bit from its previews earning $4.33 million on Friday. $12 million is probably out of reach at this point, but it should still match our weekend prediction with just over $11 million. The film’s reviews have fallen from the 100% positive level, but its Tomatometer Score is still an impressive 88% positive. Likewise, the film’s CinemaScore is a solid B, which is amazing for a horror film.
Stuber, on the other hand, is not winning over audiences, as it only managed $3.08 million, putting it on pace for just $8 million over the full weekend. Furthermore, its reviews are less than 50% positive and it only managed a B from CinemaScore, which is bad for a comedy action film like this.
Yesterday rounded out the top five with $1.95 million on Friday, putting it on pace for $7 million over the weekend.
