2017 Awards Season: DGA Winners

The Directors Guild of America Awards were handed out this weekend and two of the three categories could be good omens come Oscar night. To be more accurate, it sets up an interesting two-way race on Oscar night.

The categories and winners were...

Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film

• Guillermo del Toro for The Shape of Water

• Matthew Heineman for City of Ghosts

• Jordan Peele for Get Out

Notes and Reactions...

• Guillermo del Toro won Best Director for The Shape of Water, while Jordan Peele for Best First Time Director for Get Out. Both directors are up for the Oscar and it looks like it will be a two-horse race.
• City of Ghosts wasn’t even nominated for an Oscar, so the DGAs won’t help predict the winner there.
