Home Market Releases for March 7th, 2017
March 6, 2017
There are not a lot of releases on this week’s list for two major reasons. Firstly, it is a very, very shallow week. Secondly... Dental Surgery. By the time you read this, I might still be at the dentist. There are only two contenders for Pick of the Week, Jackie on Blu-ray and Moana on Blu-ray Combo Pack. It wasn’t particularly close and Moana is easily the Pick of the Week.

One of the best shows on TV at the moment, so it is a bummer that it isn’t getting a Blu-ray release. VOD has really hurt packaged media sales, especially TV on DVD.
Video on Demand
A horror film about a young girl traumatized by the death of her mother, which sets off a strange obsession. The film’s reviews are good, but it is a genre that has limited appeal outside its target audience.
Video on Demand
One of the biggest bombs of last year and its reviews are terrible. Skip it.
Video on Demand
The screener has arrived, but it arrived too late to get to this weekend. Given its reviews and its Awards Season performance, it is clearly worth picking up. There are enough extras to be a Pick of the Week contender.
Video on Demand
A film about an artist, most specifically, his daughter, who produces most of the art made under his name. The reviews are nearly perfect, but there is only one making of featurette on the DVD / Blu-ray, so it is not quite a Pick of the Week contender.
Video on Demand
A lot people were really upset that this film didn’t win the Oscar for Best Animated Film, or at least Best Original Song. Is it as good as the hype? If so, is the Blu-ray loaded with enough extras to be worth Pick of the Week? Read our review to find out.
Real fans want full games and not highlights, so it is bothersome that there isn’t a running time or description on Amazon.
Normally TV shows aimed at young kids like this show is filler, even during the slowest of weeks. However, this week, it is in the top ten best-selling new releases of the week.
This film earned an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign-language Film, but it was widely considered a long shot. It is still worth picking up, but the lack of extras prevents it from being a contender for Pick of the Week.

45 Years is coming out on Criterion Collection this week. It is a great film, but the regular DVD / Blu-ray came out less than a year ago, so this double-dip feels like a cash grab.
Moana - Buy from Amazon: 3D Combo Pack
There is only one 3D release of the week, but it is for the Pick of the Week.
No 4K releases this week.
Star Trek: Voyager - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD
That ‘70s Show - No Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD or Blu-ray Combo Pack
Both of these are re-releases, but at least the prices are better.
Angel of Christmas - No Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD - Video on Demand
The Christmas Secret - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD - Video on Demand
I was going to get really angry that there are Christmas releases in March, but it snowed where I live over the weekend, so clearly winter isn’t done just yet.

The Brand New Testament - Reviews - Video on Demand
The C Word - Reviews - Video on Demand

There are a few wide releases coming out on VOD this week. Of these, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is the biggest and the best. I’m not 100% sure it is worth buying over renting. It will need good extras for that to be the case.
