2015 Awards Season: DGA Winners—The Revenant Bounces Back

The Directors Guild of America awards were handed out and it was a big night for Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu and The Revenant.

The categories and winners are...

Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film

• Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu for The Revenant

• Matthew Heineman for Cartel Land

• Alex Garland for Ex Machina

• As expected, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu won for The Revenant. He became the first director to win this award two years in a row. This also means the film has taken back momentum from The Big Short.
• Matthew Heineman winning for Cartel Land is a bit of a shock, as Asif Kapadia was considered the favorite for Amy.
• I wanted Alex Garland to win for Ex Machina and he did, so I'm happy there. Laszlo Nemes was considered the favorite, but Son of Saul will likely win Best Foreign-Language Film at the Oscars, so he shouldn't be too disappointed here.
