International Box Office: Hunger Nearly Cracks Quarter Billion
November 25, 2015
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 easily won the box office race on the international chart with $146.0 million in 87 markets for a worldwide opening of $248.7 million. Its biggest market was China, but it only managed third place there with $16.11 million. The film cracked $10 million in the U.K. with $14.10 million in 941 theaters and in Germany with $13.42 million on 1,002. The film's openings were lower than Part 1 managed in most markets (Germany and Latin American seem to be the biggest exceptions) but it is still doing well enough that it will break even before it reaches the home market.
Spectre was well back in second place with $65.7 million in 92 markets over the weekend for totals of $524.1 million internationally and $678.2 million worldwide. This is more than any other Bond film earned, except for the most recent one. The film remained in first place in China with $29.52 million for the full week, giving it a total of $78.24 million after ten days of release.
Our Times opened in third place in China with $17.38 million during its 4-day opening in its home market.
The Transporter Refueled returned to the chart in fourth place with $11.09 million, all of which was earned in China. That's almost as much as it made in total domestically. That would be more impressive if it didn't bomb here.
Inside Men opened in first place in its native South Korea $9.16 million on 1,075 screens over the weekend for a total opening of $11.51 million.
Spanish Affair 2 dominated the Spanish box office earning $8.59 million on 402 screens in its native market.
Hotel Transylvania 2 fell to seventh place with $5.8 million in 75 markets over the weekend for totals of $263.6 million internationally and $430.0 million worldwide. It will fall out of the top ten very quickly, but it is already a massive hit.
Prem Ratan Dhan Payo added $4.2 million over the weekend for a total of $43.4 million internationally.
Return Of The Cuckoo earned fifth place in China and ninth place internationally with $3.76 million.
Geomeun Sajedeul, a.k.a., The Priests is the second South Korean film in the top ten earning tenth place with $3.37 million on 778 screens over the weekend for a total of $30.57 million after three weeks of release.
