Footnote Dreaming of Success on the Per Theater Chart

Footnote led the way on the per theater chart with an average of $23,764 in two theaters, while Jiro Dreams of Sushi was right behind with an average of $21,018, also in two theaters. Salmon Fishing in the Yemen was playing in a lot more theaters, but it managed an average of $12,550 in 18 theaters. Even more impressively, it saw growth from Friday to Sunday of 85%, which is amazing for a new release. This bodes very well for its long term potential. Finally, the overall box office leader, Dr. Seuss' The Lorax, rounded out the $10,000 club with an average of $10,370.

The best of the rest of the new limited releases was Friends with Kids with an average of $5,467 in 369 theaters. This is a strong amount for a limited release playing in hundreds of theaters. Attenberg took in $3,998 in one theater, which is good, but not great. Romeo Onze barely topped the Mendoza line with an average of just $2,264 in four theaters. The Sound of Noise was not as lucky with an average of just $1,959 in three theaters. The Decoy Bride was the wrong genre, it earned weak reviews, and it opened as Video on Demand previously, so it wasn't expected to do a lot of business. However, it managed just $542 in its lone theater.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a couple Per Theater Chart alumni:

• Friends with Kids opened with more than $2 million, so obviously it reached that milestone.
• Pina got all the way to $3 million, which is really impressive for a documentary.
• A Separation's Oscar win led to box office success and it topped $4 million over the weekend.
• The Artist just made it to $40 million over the weekend and it could hit one more milestone.
