DVD Releases for November 9, 2004
November 8th, 2004
Every week films get a second chance at success from the home market; or, in some cases, a first chance at success. Here is a list of wide releases, limited releases and a few from the growing TV on DVD section, including the nominees for the DVD Pick of the Week, which we'll get to in a second. This was a strange week, there was only one first run release, a few limited releases, several nearly re-releases complete with ads for upcoming movies and more than a couple really old movies mostly sold in sets. Even the best of the bunch is going to have a really narrow appeal, so instead of naming a Pick of the Week, I'll name the best of each group. Best Limited Release: Ju-On: The Grudge - Buy from Amazon. Best Ad for A Sequel: Bridget Jones's Diary - Collector's Series - Buy from Amazon. Best Box Set Containing Movies Made Before I was Born: Fritz Lang Epic Collection - Buy from Amazon. More...DVD Releases for August 24, 2004

July 28th, 2004
It was a busy week on the per theatre charts, both in terms of the number of films to hit $10,000 per theatres and the number of films to hit milestones. Surprisingly, Maria Full of Grace repeated at the top of the per theatre chart with $19,562, which is a drop of only 1.5% from its opening. Next was the overall box office champ, Bourne Supremacy with a $16,595 average in 3,165 theatres. Very close behind in third place was Zatoichi with $15,276. Rounding out the $10,000 club was Home at the End of the World and Festival Express with averages of $12,946 and $12,074 respectively. More...Crowded Weekend for Limited Releases
July 23rd, 2004
Today sees the opening a few more limited releases, but perhaps more significantly, it also will see the expansion of a few other, previously released limited release films.

Every week films get a second chance at success from the home market; or, in some cases, a first chance at success. Here is a list of wide releases, limited releases and a few from the growing TV on DVD section. This week's pick of the week was a real buried treasure, so well buried that I couldn't find it. Currently, there isn't a single release in the top ten on Amazon's Sales Chart. And the top performer from this week's releases is a case of controversy over quality.
