Featured Blu-ray and DVD Review: John Wick: Chapter 2
June 11th, 2017
The original John Wick came out of nowhere. There was no hype machine pumping up the film, so most moviegoers had no real idea what was coming. There was strong buzz from the people who had seen it, but nothing compared to the average midlevel release. Its reviews were amazing, but it still didn’t really find a large audience in theaters. Fortunately for the studio, it was inexpensive enough that it made enough profit to justify a sequel. Can John Wick: Chapter 2 live up to its predecessor?

Featured Blu-ray / DVD Review: John Wick
February 1st, 2015
John Wick stars Keanu Reeves in the titular role. Keanu Reeves has earned close to $2 billion domestically, but it has been more than a decade since he starred in a film that earned more than $100 million at the box office. This film couldn't even get halfway to the century mark. Did it deserve to become a hit? Or was it destined to fall between the cracks?

Featured Blu-ray Review - The Jack Ryan Collection
December 2nd, 2013
The Jack Ryan franchise is a strange one. There have been four films so far, with a fifth on the way, and during that time, four different actors will have played the titular role. Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit hits theaters in mid-January, so it is a perfect time to release the four earlier movies on a Blu-ray box set. (Or to be more accurate, re-release the 2008 Blu-rays in one box set.) How many of these earlier films are worth checking out? And is the box set good value?

Featured TV on DVD Review: Blue Bloods: Season Three
September 9th, 2013
Blue Bloods is the lowest rated show on CBS that earned a renewal. Compared to the network's average, the show's ratings were weak, even for a Friday night show. The viewership numbers are strong, but the average age is high enough that the large viewership doesn't translate into strong ratings in the prime demographic, which usually determines what shows stay and go. This one survived another year. Will fans celebrate this? Or has the quality slipped making cancellation inevitable?
