2018 - Holiday Gift Guide - Part II - TV on DVD Releases
December 5th, 2018
The first installment of our Holiday Gift Guide dealt with First Run wide releases, which was dominated by super heroes, again. This week, we look at TV on DVD releases, specifically first seasons and Megasets. I limited this list to two types, because you don’t need me to tell you if someone will want the sixth season of a show. If they liked the first five, then season six is likely a good gift. However, like last year, I’m going to start this list with an exception. Sort of. On a side note, originally, I was going to lead with K-On: Limited Edition Box Set, but that got pushed back till February. You can still buy it and give them a print-out of the receipt at Christmas. “Merry Christmas. You’re gift will arrive in two months.” ... Yes, I’ve done that in the past. No, it's not tacky.

Featured TV on DVD Review: Ash vs. Evil Dead: Season Three
August 20th, 2018
I previously reviewed the first
two seasons of this show and loved it. I was really disappointed to hear season three would be its last. There was an immediate fan campaign to bring the show back; however, that ended as soon as Bruce Campbell said he was happy with the way the series ended and it was time to retire Ash J. Williams. Was he right? Does the show end in a satisfying way? Or does it just end? And does season three live up to the show's high quality regardless?

Featured TV on DVD Review: Ash vs The Evil Dead: Season 2
August 21st, 2017
I previously reviewed the first season of Ash vs The Evil Dead and loved it. The ratings were also very good and it was renewed for a second season. The network renewed the show for a third season less than a week after the second season premiere. However, ratings slipped and the season finale was watched by barely more than half of the people who watched the first season finale. Does this mean the quality tanked? Am I still excited for season three?

2016 - Holiday Gift Guide - Part II - TV on DVD Releases
December 8th, 2016
The first installment of our Holiday Gift Guide was a little shorter than I would have liked, because there wasn’t much in the way of first-run releases and franchise box sets. The second installment is going to be even shorter. That’s not to say there isn’t a lot of TV on DVD releases that would make worthy gifts, but we limit ourselves to first seasons and complete series Megasets. You don’t need us to tell you if Modern Family: Season Seven would make a good gift, for example. If the recipient hasn’t started watching the show yet, they are likely not into it. (There is an exception to this rule this year, but more on that down below.) The number of high-quality new shows that have a first season out on DVD / Blu-ray are very limited. Atlanta is amazing, but the first season is only out on Video on Demand. The first season of Luke Cage is only available on Netflix. Furthermore, there are not a lot Megasets worth talking about. That said, we begin with not just a Megaset, but a Gigaset. Perhaps even a Teraset!

Featured TV on DVD Review: Ash vs The Evil Dead: Season 1
August 22nd, 2016
Bruce Campbell returns to Evil Dead, this time in the TV show, Ash vs The Evil Dead. Turning a movie into a TV show, especially a cult classic from 30 years ago, seems like a risky prospect. Does it pay off? Will fans of the show want to pick it up?

2013 - Holiday Gift Guide - Part IV
December 21st, 2013
PANIC! If you haven't finished your Christmas shopping yet, it is officially time to panic. Personally, I got the last of my shopping done on Wednesday, although I don't think the gift will arrive in time for Christmas. For those still looking for a last minute gift, Part IV of our Holiday Gift Guide focuses on books, CDs, and of course anything else I missed the first time around, beginning with...

Featured TV on DVD Review: Burn Notice: Season Six
August 6th, 2013
The latest season of Burn Notice arrived a little late, and by a little I mean more than a full month. Since it is one of my favorite summer shows, I was eagerly awaiting its arrival. But now that I've seen it, was it worth the wait?
