Holiday theater counts: Jurassic World Rebirth thunders into theaters for the holiday weekend
July 2, 2025
With the Fourth of July holiday again upon us, it means the summer season is in full swing, and with that, the release of another summer blockbuster. Last year it was Despicable Me 4, and this year, the latest installment in the popular Jurassic Park franchise, with the release of Jurassic World Rebirth.
Jurassic World Rebirth is set five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, with the planet’s ecology proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs. And those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived. The three most colossal creatures within that tropical biosphere hold the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind. The latest feature opened today in 4,063 theaters and will expand into 4,308 locations starting Friday. The film is directed by Gareth Edwards and stars Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey, among others.
Rebirth may be the only new wide addition to this week’s list, but there are still plenty of viewing opportunities to catch some fan favorites on the big screen. These include the $207 million domestic earner, How to Train Your Dragon, playing in 3,714 cinemas starting today and holding that count throughout the weekend. Closing out its opening week is F1: The Movie, currently showing in 3,661 venues. The Formula One racing film starring Brad Pitt ignited just over $57 million last weekend and currently enjoys a five-day total of $72.5 million. Meanwhile, 28 Years Later and Elio are currently playing in 3,168 and 3,750 theaters, respectively. The former will drop below 3,000 movie houses starting on Friday, but will still be very accessible, showing in 2,917 locations over the weekend.
Due to the holiday weekend, the counts listed below are reflective of July 2 and July 4. The count change on July 2 is the change from the June 27 weekend.
