Birds of Prey

Birds of Prey debuted in first place on the international chart with $46.5 million on 23,010 screens in 78 markets. This includes some impressive openings, like its first place debuts in Mexico, where it earned $4.18 million on 3,915 screens. It also earned first place in Russia with $3.81 million on 1,881 screens and in Brazil with $2.8 million on 1,506. On the other hand, the film had to settle for second place in the U.K. with $3.7 million on 1,260 screens and in South Korea with $1.30 million on 946 screens over the weekend for a total opening of $1.98 million. The film could still break even, if it has long legs in some of the major markets, and if it can increase the home market revenue of some of its other D.C.E.U. films.

Dolittle rose to second place with $19.1 million in 65 markets for totals of $96.9 million internationally and $160.8 million worldwide. The film is about to match its $175 million production budget worldwide, which isn’t enough to break even, or even come close, but it is enough to not be a embarrassing flop. There is some good news, as the film earned an easy first place in the U.K. with $6.56 million in 600 theaters, which is about a $35 million opening here, given the relative size of the two markets. Had it done that well here, and the rest of the world lived up to that opening, then we would be talking about the film possibly earning a small profit, eventually.

Bad Boys for Life was finally knocked out of first place, but it still did well with $16.41 million on 9,195 screens in 81 markets for totals of $170.32 million internationally and $336.66 million worldwide. The film is coasting on holdovers, but it did manage $1.54 million on 536 screens in France for a total of $10.09 million after three weeks of release.

1917 fell to fourth place with $16.3 million in 65 markets for totals of $157.8 million internationally and $290.6 million worldwide. The film had no major market openers this past weekend, but it did debut in third place in the Philippines earning $206,000 on 150 screens. The film has yet to open in Japan and South Korea, but it doesn’t need to earn a dollar there to break even.

Little Women rounded out the top five with $6.28 million on 5,210 in 70 markets for totals of $75.07 million internationally and $177.79 million worldwide. The film had no major market openings, but it did earn fourth place in the Netherlands with $398,000 in just 81 screens over the weekend for a total opening of $473,000.

Knives Out is no longer in the top five, but on Wednesday, the film crossed $300 million worldwide. No wonder it is getting a sequel and a potential franchise.
