Home Market Releases for October 29th, 2019
October 30, 2019
It’s a weird week on the home market, as there is not a big new wide release to talk about. However, there are several older releases, imports, etc. that are easily worth picking up and a couple of them are contenders for Pick of the Week. This includes the An American Werewolf in London: Limited Edition Blu-ray and the Godzilla The Showa-Era Films Box Set. Both are absolute must haves, but the latter’s price-tag might scare away some folks.

This film is an absolute classic in the genre and this special edition is loaded with extras. These include two audio commentary tracks, feature-length documentary, interview featurettes, video essay, making of featurettes, and a lot more. It is easily worth picking up and a contender for Pick of the Week.

A zombie musical set during Christmas. The film opened strongly, but fell apart as soon as it tried to expand. Did the film deserve to find a more substantial audience? Or it is an interesting idea with a poor execution? Read our review for my opinion.
This is the 1988 version, which is better than most people thought it would be, but not a classic. Extras include two audio commentary tracks, about a dozen interview featurettes, behind-the-scenes, and more. If you are a fan of the movie, then it is a must have. If you are a fan of the genre, it is at least worth checking out.
A rather divisive Anime about someone in a fantasy world who is obsessed with killing all of the goblins. So far, it’s a rather boring setup. However these goblins reproduce through sexual assault, which is a hack way to make them more villainous. Seriously, if you can’t think of a way of making your bad guys seem bad without using rape, then stop writing. You’re a bad writer. Stop it.
An eight-disc, 15-film box set is a must have for fans of Kaiju in general and of Godzilla in particular. However, the price is not cheap. It is a Pick of the Week contender, but I can see more than a few potential customers balking at that price.

This film earned $2 million in theaters, which is impressive for a limited release. Extras include an audio commentary track and an interview featurette. On the other hand, it is only coming out on DVD, which is a shame.
This is one of the greatest movies of all time and it is making its 4K debut here. It is also one of the best-selling new releases of the week and if more people had 4K, it would be a Pick of the Week contender.

This is a great movie. I like it more than the average critic does. That said, I don’t know if it needs to be seen in 4K to be enjoyed.

There are several wide releases on this week’s list, most of them are mediocre. The film with the best reviews is The Farewell and I’ve already put in a request for a Blu-ray screener, so hopefully that will arrive soon.
