Thursday Night Previews: The R in R-Rated Stands for Record
May 18, 2018
Deadpool 2 got off to a record-breaking start on Thursday earning $18.6 million during its previews. This is the best previews for an R-rated film, topping It’s previous record of $13.5 million by a truly massive margin. The film’s reviews are excellent for a blockbuster and the film is now on track for $150 million, which was the very high end of expectations.
Book Club will also beat predictions after earning $625,000 last night. This is a little better than the $600,000 Going In Style earned last year. Book Club is also earning better reviews and women are less likely to rush out to see a movie opening night. Furthermore, Book Club also had better advanced ticket sales. We will have a better idea where this film is at tomorrow when the Friday estimates are in.
The final new release of the week was Show Dogs, but it didn’t have previews last night. We do finally have some reviews, which are aggressively bad. I was expecting bad reviews, but not this bad.
