2017 Awards Season: BAFTA Winners

The BAFTAs were handed out on Sunday night, with Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri winning the most awards at five. This is not too surprising, as it was technically a British film, despite its setting, and that gave it a leg up on the competition.

Notes and Reactions...

• As I predicted, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri was the big winner earning five awards, including four of the prestige categories. However, it is a British film, so I think it over-performed here compared to what will happen on Oscar night.
• The Shape of Water earned three wins, including Best Director for Guillermo del Toro.
• Darkest Hour and Blade Runner 2049 both won two awards.
• Coco won, again. No one should be surprised by that.
