International Box Office: Kingsman Remains Golden with $50.5 million
October 4, 2017
Kingsman: The Golden Circle remained in first place on the international chart with $50.5 million in 77 markets for totals of $125.97 million internationally and $192.61 million worldwide. The film dominated the South Korean market with $11.89 million on 1,677 screens over the weekend for a total opening of $16.49 million there. It also debuted in first place in Mexico, with a less impressive $2.28 million. The film has yet to open in France, China, and Japan, so it should continue to rake in the money.
Never Say Die is the first of three Chinese films in the top five. This one earned $45.67 in its native market, which was enough for second place overall.
It slipped a spot to third with $35.6 million on 9,865 screens in 64 markets for totals of $262.0 million internationally and $552.78 million worldwide. The film took top spot in Germany with $11.8 million, including previews, which was the best opening ever for a horror movie in that market. The film will have no trouble getting to $600 million worldwide, but it only has two major markets left to open in, Italy and Japan, so getting to $700 million seems out of reach.
The Foreigner debuted in second place in China and fourth place overall with $22.02 million over the weekend for a total opening of $29.86 million.
Chasing the Dragon rounded out the top five with $14.26 million, all of which came from China.
Despicable Me 3 added $2 million on 2,377 screens in 45 markets for totals of $760.77 million internationally and $1.023 billion worldwide. It is just about to overtake Zootopia for fifth place on the all-time animated chart, while it should eventually catch The Phantom Menace for 25th place on the worldwide chart.
