Theater Averages: Midnight has Special Year-Best Opening of $38,002

Midnight Special had the best theater average for a film that opened in 2016 earning $190,000 in five theaters for an average of $38,002. The only other film in the $10,000 club was A Space Program with $10,247 in its lone theater.
There were a lot of other new limited releases with a wide range of results. On the high end, My Golden Years earned an average of $8,949 in three theaters. Too Late opened with $7,000 in one theater. Kapoor and Sons earned nearly $1 million in 143 theaters giving it an average of $6,898. Krisha's opening was okay earning an average of $5,125 in two theaters. Sweet Bean was close behind with $4,630 in one theater. Ktown Cowboys struggled with an average of $3,131 in four theaters. Burning Bodhi bombed with an average of $356, also in four theaters.
