Per Theater Chart: Perfect Dreams

May 20, 2015

I'll See You In My Dreams

Pitch Perfect 2 opened in first place on the overall chart and matched that on the per theater chart earning an average of $19,930. I'll See You in My Dreams placed second with an average of $16,447 in three theaters. Its reviews suggest it has at least some potential to expand. Pather Panchali was the only holdover in the $10,000 club with $14,793 in its lone theater during its second week of release. Mad Max: Fury Road earned an average of $12,271. It is not that common that we have two wide releases in the $10,000 club. Every Secret Thing was the final film in the $10,000 with $11,083 in one theater.

There were ten other new limited releases that opened over the weekend, but most of them missed the Mendoza Line. Good Kill did well with an average of $8,875 in two theaters. The Connection and In the Name of my Daughter were neck-and-neck with averages of $5,168 and $4,851 respectively. There was a big gap between those two and the rest of the new limited releases. Where Hope Grows is a faith-based film that opened in nearly 300 theaters, but only managed an average of $1,657. Our Man in Tehran was just a couple of ticket sales behind with $1,640 in one theater. Another documentary, One Cut, One Life, was next with an average of $1,493 in two theaters over the weekend. It was a Wednesday release, so that is a mitigating factor. Bombay Velvet was very close behind with an average of $1,468 in just over 200 theaters. Animals really struggled with an average of $1,316 in 11 theaters. Know How was even worse with an average of $1,207 in two theaters. Finally we get to The Film Critic, which only managed an average of $420 in two theaters.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a couple of Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • Piku held on a lot better than most Bollywood movies and that helped it get to $1 million before the weekend. By the end of the weekend, the film was nearly at $2 million.
  • Far from the Madding Crowd earned more than $1 million over the weekend, which helped it get to $2 million in total. It will reach $3 million before the weekend.
