Blu-ray Sales: Beginning of the End for Batman?
August 15th, 2012
It looks like the Batman films will finally be slipping out of the top five in the coming weeks. Batman Begins came in first place in terms of units topping Hatfields & McCoys 192,000 units to 186,000 units. However, Hatfields & McCoys easily won in terms of revenue with $4.63 million to $1.91 million. Its opening week Blu-ray share was 34%, which is good for a TV mini-series, but below average for the format.

DVD and Blu-ray Releases for July 31st, 2012

According to Amazon.com, the best selling new release of the week is a catalog Blu-ray release. Not only that, it is a double-dip. There were a few contenders for Pick of the Week, including the aforementioned Blu-ray double-dip: Total Recall: Mind-Bending Edition. It looks better than the previous edition, it has more extras, and it is really cheap. Forever Marilyn is a great Blu-ray and is also excellent value for the money. Finally, Mystery Science Theater 3000: Volume XXIV. 'Nuff said. So which one is the pick of the week? Honestly, I can't decide. Call it a three-way tie.

Featured Blu-ray Review: Total Recall: Mind-Bending Edition
July 28th, 2012
With the remake coming out next Friday, now is the perfect time for the original Total Recall to be re-released on Blu-ray. I've previously reviewed the film when it was part of a Box Set. Because I've reviewed it before, I won't go into too much detail with regards to the movie. It's not like my opinion has changed suddenly. I thought it was worth picking up before, and I think it is worth owning now. But, is it worth paying money to see it in high definition?

DVD and Blu-ray Releases for November 23rd, 2010
November 22nd, 2010
This Friday is Black Friday, but there's a lull on the home market with not a whole lot of great releases.
(This is the usual pattern for Thanksgiving.)
The biggest hit coming out is The Expendables, which should top the chart, while there are a number of smaller releases that are in contention for Pick of the Week. The best of these is Metropolis: The Complete Metropolis, which comes out on Blu-ray this week after being released on DVD last week.
