DVD Releases for February 12, 2008

February 12th, 2008

It is still early in the year, and, once more, most first run releases this week come from the second tier. That is not to say there are no quality releases, but there are no big box office hits. For instance, Gone, Baby, Gone is certainly the best movie on this week's list, and the DVD is certainly worth picking up, as is the Blu-ray to a lesser extent. However, the best of the best and the DVD Pick of the Week is the Warner Brothers Home Entertainment Academy Awards Animation Collection - Winners & Nominees. More...

It's still too early for Oscar worthy films to come up, but we do have a few films that are scoring with critics. The best of these is In the Shadow of the Moon, but my personal choice is I Want Someone to Eat Cheese With. Regardless, it will be tough for any of the films on this weeks list to see their theater count expand to triple digits. More...

The Dog Days of Summer. Not sure why they are called that, but it could have something to do with all the movie releases that look like dogs. What these films lack in quality, however, they are making up for in quantity, with between 13 and 17 movies being released over the four weeks. (There are few films that may or may not get wide releases and another couple that will likely get pushed back.) With this much competition, all but a few will likely bomb and most look like huge mistakes. After reading the list of predictions, head here to discuss them with other movie fans. More...
