Synopsis
When 17-year-old Autumn looks at herself in the mirror, she can see the signs beginning to manifest in her body. She visits a pregnancy center, where her apprehensions are confirmed by a positive result on a drugstore pregnancy kit. But the center’s pamphlets aimed at encouraging motherhood and adoption don’t tell Autumn what she wants and needs to know. What Autumn learns about reproductive services through her own research is not encouraging. As a minor she cannot obtain an abortion in her home state without parental consent. That leaves her to consider the age-old methods women have turned to when confronting unintended pregnancies. Though Autumn keeps mum about her dilemma, her distress is clear to her cousin and best friend Skylar, who sees her every day at school and at their part-time jobs as cashiers. As soon as she understands Autumn’s situation, Skylar’s support is swift and decisive, without a word needing to be spoken. With the address of a Brooklyn clinic in hand, the cousins board an early morning bus bound for New York City. But their trip takes an unexpected turn when Autumn learns that a one-visit procedure isn’t possible. As the cousins navigate two fraught days and nights in an unfamiliar and overwhelming city, their journey becomes one of profound solidarity, compassion and friendship.

New on DVD and Blu-ray: Never Rarely… and Mob Psycho Lead the New Releases
June 9th, 2020
It is a slower week on the home market with no really big releases to talk about, at least not when you judge them by box office numbers. The Al Adamson: The Masterpiece Collection Blu-ray is massive, when you judge it by the price and the running time, but it is filled with low-budget B-movies. The biggest box office hit is The Hunt, which couldn’t ride its controversial nature to high ticket sales. As for the best releases, it was close race between Never Rarely Sometimes Always on DVD and season two Mob Psycho 100 on Blu-ray Combo Pack. Both have stellar reviews and it was a coin toss to decide which one would come out ahead, which Mob Psycho 100 won.

This Week on VOD: Never, Rarely, Sometimes, Always, and Others
May 22nd, 2020
There are only four films on this week’s VOD release list and only two of them are earning good reviews. Never, Rarely, Sometimes, Always is the better of these two films and it is absolutely worth checking out. Military Wives is one of those feel-good films that could be really nice to watch right now, even if it isn’t a classic.

VOD Releases: Rarely, Sometimes, Repeated
April 3rd, 2020
The VOD market is beginning to return to a new state of normal with a collection of wide theatrical releases from earlier in the year, as well as some smaller releases that are more or less VOD premieres. Usually it is the wide releases that stand out on these lists, but Never, Rarely, Sometimes, Always is the VOD release I would recommend the most. That said, if you are a fan of political documentaries, then you have a few choices, Slay the Dragon being the best of this selection.

Limited and VOD Releases: Prospects for Limited Releases are Never, Rarely this Dire
March 13th, 2020
The COVID-19 outbreak hangs heavily over the film business this weekend, and raises a lot of questions about how much business we will see at the box office. It is going to affect family films most of all, because families are more likely to stay home than adults when it comes to diseases like this. However, the second group to be affected could be art house films, because these tend to only play in large cities, and large cities have been hit harder by the outbreak so far. The advise is to stay three feet away from anyone else, which is impossible if you are using the New York City subway system, for example. I don’t think any of the films on this week’s list are going to thrive, at least not in theaters. That’s too bad, because there are several that deserve audiences, including Big Time Adolescence, Never, Rarely, Sometimes, Always, and others.
