Synopsis

On October 9, 2019, Trafalgar Releasing presents S&M2, a must-see celebration of the 20th anniversary of Metallica’s groundbreaking S&M concerts and album recorded with the San Francisco Symphony. See them once again perform with the Symphony as legendary conductor Michael Tilson Thomas leads a portion of the show, kicking off his final season in San Francisco. Recorded live on September 6th and 8th, the shows also commemorate the opening of the state-of-the-art Chase Center, a historic addition to the city’s waterfront. Including several tracks from the original '99 S&M release as well as symphonic versions of new songs released since then, this theatrical release gives millions of fans around the world the chance to eclipse time and experience the show as a modern-day big screen concert.

Normally this time of year is a transitional period, as the flood of TV on DVD releases begins to give way to the soon-to-be flood of summer blockbusters. However, the pandemic means there are no summer blockbusters coming out this week, or next week. Or next month. Or the month after that. There are still a couple of bigger TV-on-DVD releases, including The Flash, but the biggest recent theatrical releases hardly made an impact. The best release on this week’s list is Yes, God, Yes, but Amazon has it currently unavailable, so grab it from Target instead.

Theater Averages: Parasite Sinks Its Teeth into the Competition

Parasite was the only new release in the $10,000 club, but it not only led the way over the weekend, its average of $128,072 in three theaters is the best average this year. In fact, this is not only the best average of the year, its the best average since La La Land’s debut in 2016. While Parasite was the only new release in the $10,000 club, it wasn’t the only member. Joker was in a distant second place, a very, very distant second place with an average of $12,771. Meanwhile, Célébration was very close behind with $12,678 in its lone theater.
