Synopsis
Set several generations in the future, following Caesar’s reign, in which apes are the dominant species living harmoniously and humans have been reduced to living in the shadows. As a new tyrannical ape leader builds his empire, one young ape undertakes a harrowing journey that will cause him to question all that he has known about the past and to make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike.

Weekend predictions: Bad Boys riding towards respectable $40-million-plus opening

This is looking like a glass-half-full kind of weekend at the box office. Bad Boys: Ride or Die doesn’t look it will match Bad Boys for Life at the box office, but it does look as though it will have the best opening weekend since Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes with something around $45 million. Meanwhile, The Watchers looks as though it will have a respectable debut.

Weekend predictions: IF faltering as we head into another disappointing weekend

After a good opening for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes last weekend, it looked as though Summer season momentum was building. Soft preview numbers for IF are cause for concern though. As a family film, it should play strongly through the weekend, but it’ll need to perform very strongly to hit the $40 million or $50 million that we’d hoped for. Meanwhile, The Strangers: Part 1 is looking solid, and Back to Black is, as expected, falling short of its potential.

After a relatively soft start for The Fall Guy last weekend, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes looks like it will have a much more successful start, having already picked up $6.6 million from previews, compared to Fall Guy’s $3.15 million last Thursday. Our model thinks $50 million is the target for the apes on their opening weekend.
