There was just one film that managed to make it to the $10,000 per theatre milestone this weekend but it was a huge film. Fahrenheit 9/11 played in 868 theatres over the weekend taking in an amazing $23.9 million for an unbelievable average of $27,558, almost quadruple the second place film. Next week the film should expand to more than double the current number of theatres, so if it can remain about $10,000 per theatre it will be a monster hit.

Four movies crossed the $10,000 per theatre mark, lead by Godzilla: The Original Japanese Version with $19,015 average in two theatres. The debuts of Van Helsing with $14,475 per theatre and Super Size Me with $12,601 also placed high on the list. And in its ninth weekend of release Games People Play: New York managed an unbelievable $14,388 in its lone theatre.

While The Passion of the Christ finished first on the per theatre charts for the second weekend in a row, it the performance of a smaller movie, Goodbye, Lenin! that stole the show. Its per theatre average climbed nearly 10%. Now a movie having its per theatre average climb after the Oscars isn't surprising. However, Goodbye, Lenin! was ignored by the Oscar nomination committee.
