DVD Releases for May 26th, 2009 - Part II
May 26th, 2009
It's a slow week, not that you can tell from the number of spotlight reviews. Over the past week, I received close to a dozen DVDs that were late. Fortunately, I was able to get to all of them, at least I till this afternoon when a couple more arrived late. (It never ends.) As for the DVD / Blu-rays coming out this week, there's not much of a selection. The best is Jeeves & Wooster - The Complete Series, but the lack of extras prevents it from being awarded the DVD Pick of the Week. On the other hand, the best on this week's list is Star Trek - Original Motion Picture Collection, which actually came out a couple weeks ago. Even so, it is deserving of the DVD Pick of the Week. A slow week plus a lot of late reviews still results in a list so long it had to be spit into two. The first part can be found here.

DVD Releases for May 04, 2004
May 3rd, 2004
Every week films get a second chance at success from the home market; or, in some cases, a first chance at success. There was again an excellent mix of wide releases, limited releases, older films and TV on DVD. And because of the wide section, there should be something for everyone, and for me it's Gilmore Girls - Season 1 - (Buy from Amazon), which is my DVD pick of the week. March 17th, 2004
The reality-TV game show-esque film Games People Play came in first on the Per Theatre Average charts. It earned, well maybe not earned but made $12,346 in its lone theatre over the weekend. More...Oscar Prediction: Costume Design

They Couldn't have Dreamt of a Better Opening
February 12th, 2004
It's obvious The Dreamers wasn't hampered by its NC-17 rating. Not only is its per theatre average of $28,526 the best of the week, it was the best this year beating Big Fish by more than $8,000. More...Mormons and Mountains
February 5th, 2004
Only two films topped $10,000 per theatre this week, but the race was top spot was close enough to make it an interesting weekend on the per theatre charts. Touching the Void remained in first place with $14,837, down just 24% percent from last weekend. In second place with $14,311 was Latter Days. It is particularly interesting to see Latter Days perform so well as Madstone Theaters pulled the from its theatres allegedly due to, 'aesthetic reasons.'

Filling the Void
January 29th, 2004
The mountain climbing documentary, Touching the Void, topped this week's Per Theatre Average chart. The film earned almost $100 thousand in just 5 theatres for an impressive average of $19,395. That was nearly double the second place contender, Empathy, which took in $11,975 in its only theatre.

January 15th, 2004
The two documentaries about famous designer, Yves St. Laurent, finished first on the per theatre average this week. While its average of $15,385 was enough to take top spot, it is not particularly high for a movie opening in only one theatre and chances of mainstream success are not likely. December 16th, 2003
With only one major release making waves on the Per Theatre Charts, it was a chance for the limited releases to dominate. And by far the most successful was Big Fish. The latest from Tim Burton topped the charts with $34,563 average in six theatres.
