Synopsis
A film divided into three “movements.” First is a Mediterranean cruise on board a luxury liner, with numerous conversations between the passengers on holiday, including a war criminal, his granddaughter, a famous French philosopher, and an American singer. The second involves a sister and her younger brother, summoning their parents to appear before the court of their childhood as they demand serious explications on the ideas of Liberty, Equality and Fraternity. Finally, in the third movement, Godard visits six sites of “true or false” myths: Egypt, Palestine, Odessa, Hellas, Naples and Barcelona.

DVD and Blu-ray Releases for January 10th, 2012
January 9th, 2012
It's a pretty good week on the home market, for this time of year, with a number of releases that are worth checking out. This includes big budget releases, like Moneyball on Blu-ray Combo Pack, as well as TV on DVD releases like Doctor Who: Story 71: Invasion of the Dinosaurs and Story 83: The Android Invasion, as well as smaller releases like Higher Ground on Blu-ray Combo Pack. Unfortunately, it's not a particularly deep week for releases, and it isn't long before we start getting to DVDs and Blu-rays that would be ignored during a typically busy week. Not only that, but I'm still waiting for screeners for a number of bigger releases. One of these, Boardwalk Empire: Season One on Blu-ray, is the most likely candidate for Pick of the Week.

Per Theater Chart: Beginners Begins Big but can't Top Tree
June 7th, 2011
The Tree of Life held onto top spot on the per theater chart with an average of $30,915 in 20 theaters. It will undoubtedly expand further. Beginners was right behind with an average of $28,268 in five theaters. Midnight in Paris continues to shine with an average of $18,843 in 147 theaters. It has a planned semi-wide expansion this weekend, so this is very likely the last time it will top $10,000 on the per theater chart, but it will continue to hit milestones. X-Men: First Class earned first place on the overall box office chart and fourth place on the per theater chart with $15,134. Submarine managed to top $10,000 on the per theater chart, but it was close with and average of $10,458 in four theaters.

The Limited Releases are Looking Beautiful
June 3rd, 2011
For the past two weeks in a row we've seen one limited release just dominate the market by earning close to $100,000 on the per theater chart. Will that happen again this week? The odds are really stacked against it; it would be like a wide release opening with $100 million three weeks in a row. But if it does happen, Submarine is the film most likely to manage that feat. However, there are a few other limited releases worth keeping your eyes on.
