Synopsis

Sara is an ambitious, beautiful twenty-something working her way through law school. Her hard work and stellar academic record has paid off with a coveted scholarship. Her kind spirit and generous manner attracts one of the popular guys at school, Eric. His jealous girlfriend, Brooke, who comes from a wealthy, privileged background, decides angrily to publicly humiliate Sara at the bar where Sara works. Watching from the bar is Alex, gorgeous and even more privileged even than Brooke. Alex takes Sara under her wing to comfort her. As a way of getting back at Brooke, Alex encourages Sara to continue her flirtation with Eric. For a little while, it’s great fun. But it backfires – Brooke’s father is the head of the scholarship board, and Brooke convinces him to revoke Sara’s scholarship. Then Brooke gets Sara fired from her job. Devastated, Sara turns to Alex. As the two girls become closer, a sexual tension develops between them. As they discuss what to do about Brooke, Alex tells Sara about her own stepmother, a woman she despises. Alex casually suggests to Sara that they should make a murder pact. Alex would kill Brooke for Sara, and Sara would repay by killing Alex’s stepmother. All their problems would be solved. Sara shrugs off the suggestion as a joke. The next day, Brooke is found dead, and Alex appears at Sara’s door, reminding her of the pact. Sara realizes she has been used and that Alex has set her up to take the rap for Brooke’s murder. Out of her elements and emotionally distraught over the betrayal, Sara knows that if she wants to survive, she is going to have to fight back with an equally cunning and deadly plan of her own.

DVD and Blu-ray Releases for November 19th, 2013

November 20th, 2013

There are some good releases this week, but it is also a shallow week. If you look at Amazon.com's list of new releases, by the third or fourth page, you will find more filler than releases worth talking about. On the other hand, there are a number of late releases that finally arrived and I was able to get done. There are a number of contenders for Pick of the Week this week, including Doctor Who Story 29: The Tenth Planet, which is a must have for all Whovians. Kinky Boots is a very fun movie and you can't beat the price of the DVD. On the other hand, the Star Trek: The Next Generation Blu-ray releases for Season Five and Unification are expensive, but worth it for fans. In the end, I went with The World's End on Blu-ray Combo Pack for Pick of the Week. More...

Featured DVD Review: Breaking the Girls

November 18th, 2013

Breaking the Girls came out in limited release in July, but was not a hit with moviegoers or critics. In fact, it has so far earned zero positive reviews. Will I disagree with the other critics? Or is there a reason none of the critics on Rotten Tomatoes recommended the movie? More...

Limited Releases: Going to War

July 26th, 2013

There are a huge number of limited releases this week, but the vast majority of them are not earning strong enough reviews to suggest they will thrive in limited release. There are some, like Extracted, that are earning positive reviews, but there are so few reviews, that it is impossible to judge the movie. Drug War is earning the best reviews and it might find an audience. However, it is Blue Jasmine that has the best shot at earning some measure of mainstream success. More...
