Synopsis
Dr. Cara Jessup has made a career out of defying the notion of multiple personality disorders. In the courtroom, her views and testimonies as an expert witness against multiple personality disorders have resulted in the death sentence of more than half a dozen murderers. Cara is devoted to science, but even her husband's horrific murder did not cause Cara to lose her faith in God. Not so for her young daughter Samantha, a committed unbeliever. After a particularly troubling court case, Cara's father Dr. Harding introduces her to his new patient - Adam. The more she unearths about Adam, the more her life and those closest to her are endangered. As she explores Adam's past, Cara's world begins to fall apart and she is forced to question her strong beliefs in science and in God. Racing against the clock to solve the mystery surrounding Adam, Cara must not lose faith or it could have grave consequences for her and her family.

Blu-ray Sales: Despicable Has Virtuous Result
September 19th, 2013
New releases were even worse on the July 7th, 2013 edition of the Blu-ray sales chart than they were on the DVD sales chart. Leading the way was Despicable Me with 88,000 units / $1.23 million for the week and 2.35 million units / $58.37 million after more than two-and-a-half years of release. This puts it just outside of the top 20 on the All-Time Blu-ray Chart, and it has already made it there as of the writing of this column.

DVD Sales: New Releases Feel Despicable
September 19th, 2013
The new releases were terrible this week with only two of them reaching the top 30 and none of them reached the top 5 on the July 7th, 2013 DVD sales chart. Despicable Me rose to first place with 196,000 units / $2.19 million for the week for totals of 8.96 million units / $147.10 million.

DVD and Blu-ray Releases for July 2nd, 2013
July 2nd, 2013
It is a terrible week for new releases on the home market with nearly nothing worth talking about. It was so bad, I pushed back the column one more day so I could review Todd and The Book Of Pure Evil: Season 2, just so I would have a contender for Pick of the Week. 56 Up is the best new release of the week, but demand will be split between the DVD and the franchise box set.

Featured Blu-ray / DVD Review: 6 Souls
June 30th, 2013
6 Souls was made in 2008, but only started earning a few international releases in 2010 and came out in limited release and Video on Demand domestically earlier this year. This is a bad sign. Was there a reason the film wasn't able to earn a release date? Or is this an undiscovered gem?

Contest: Independent Spirit
June 28th, 2013
Next weekend is the Fourth of July long weekend, which is a great time to release a potential monster hit. However, while there are two or three films opening wide (one of them is semi-wide) it seems clear that Despicable Me 2 will be the clear winner. As such, it is the easy choice for the target film for this week's box office prediction contest. In order to win, one must simply predict the opening weekend box office number for Despicable Me 2.
Whoever comes the closest to predicting the film's opening 3-day weekend box office (Friday to Sunday), without going over, will win a copy of 6 Souls on Blu-ray.
Meanwhile, whoever comes the closest to predicting the film's opening 3-day weekend box office (Friday to Sunday), without going under, will also win a copy of 6 Souls on Blu-ray.
Entries must be received by 10 a.m., Pacific Time on Friday to be eligible, so don't delay!
Important Note: While Despicable Me 2 opens on Wednesday, we only care about the Friday through Sunday box office.

Limited Releases: Are Any Limited Releases Worth Keeping?
April 5th, 2013
![](https://m.the-numbers.com/images/movies/opusdata/Company-You-Keep-The-Thumbnail.jpg)
As usual, there is an eclectic mix of limited releases, including some that have earned some advance buzz, like Trance and The Company You Keep, which should help them at the box office. The best reviewed film of the week is Upstream Color, but it is probably too weird to thrive outside of the art house circuit. It might be too weird to thrive within the art house circuit.
