Weekend predictions: Little Mermaid shoots for $100 million on crowded weekend
May 26th, 2023
The Little Mermaid will swim off with the box office crown this Memorial Day weekend, and will almost certainly hit $100 million over the full four-day weekend. The big question as of Friday is whether it will pass $100 million by close of business on Sunday. Our model thinks it’ll be close, but may be underestimating the aquatic adventure’s chances.

Weekend predictions: Dungeons & Dragons poised for surprise weekend win
March 31st, 2023
It’s too early to crown a winner at the box office this weekend, but Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is the favorite right now in what is looking to be an epic battle with John Wick: Chapter 4. Wick goes into its second weekend with almost $100 million already in the bank, but will most likely fall fairly steeply from its opening weekend, and good reviews could give D&D the momentum it needs to pull off a victory that looked unlikely just a week ago. There is one big caveat with this morning’s prediction though.

Weekend predictions: John Wick shooting for $75 million plus this weekend
March 24th, 2023
John Wick: Chapter 4 will continue the remarkable run for the John Wick franchise by earning more on opening weekend than John Wick: Chapter 3—Parabellum, just as that movie beat the opening weekend of John Wick: Chapter Two, which had a better opening weekend than the original John Wick. It’s a rare franchise that manages to grow business with each new release, and an even rarer one that gets better reviews with each outing. But this is one of them. Exactly how much it’ll make this weekend remains a little uncertain, but things are looking very, very good.

Weekend predictions: Shazam! could struggle to hit $30 million this weekend
March 17th, 2023
Shazam! Fury of the Gods picked up $3.4 million from preview screenings on Thursday. That’s a lot less than the $9.225 million earned by Shazam! back in 2019, and points to an opening weekend for the latest movie in the DC Extended Universe that will fall well short of the $53.5 million earned by its predecessor. In fact, it might not make it to $30 million this weekend.
