DEG Watched At Home Chart: Sonic Sneaks into First Place
May 28, 2020
Sonic the Hedgehog was released on DVD / Blu-ray / 4K last week and that helped it climb into first place on the DEG Watched at Home chart. The film was already in fifth place last week on the strength of its digital releases, so it has had a very profitable run on the home market already.
Birds of Prey slipped into second place this week, but that’s still impressive. There are not a lot of massive hits coming out on the home market over the next few weeks, so it could stick around on this chart for long enough to fully justify a sequel or two.
Despite already being on Disney+, Onward did well enough on physical media and VOD that it earned third place on this week’s chart. I didn’t think it would do that well. This was one of five Disney / Fox films on this week’s list, which puts them in first place for most titles. Sort of. Universal handled The Gentlemen’s home market release, which technically also gives them five titles on this week’s list.
Sony rounded out the top five with two films, Bad Boys for Life and Bloodshot, which earned fourth and fifth places respectively.
Justice League Dark: Apokolips War landed in sixth place during its home market debut, which is amazing for a direct-to-video release. Other new releases include Emma. in 15th place and Spies in Disguise in 18th place.
