How to Build a Girl

It isn’t a particularly strong week for VOD releases, but there are some films of note. Fire Will Come is the best film, but we are getting mixed signals whether or not it is even coming out. How to Build a Girl is earning much louder buzz and its reviews are certainly good enough for a VOD rental.

 This film easily has the best reviews on this week’s list. However, the distributor’s official site still says “coming soon.” So it’s not clear if it is actually being released yet.

How to Build a Girl - Reviews
 Amazon or Vudu
Beanie Feldstein stars as a 16-year old looking to reinvent herself. This film is earning the loudest buzz of any film on this week’s list, but its reviews are merely good and likely not good enough for limited release. On the other hand, it is apparently getting a limited release and we could see some box office numbers by Monday. Here’s hoping they are good.

Porno - Reviews
 Amazon or Vudu
A group of religious teens working in a movie theater in the 1990s find a stash of vintage pornos and while watching them accidentally summon a succubus. The average review score is lower than its Tomatometer Score, but while it is not great, it is worth a rental.

Redcon-1 - Reviews
 Amazon or Vudu
A low-budget zombie flick that is earning weak reviews. On the other hand, it only costs $3 to rent on Vudu, so it isn’t a big risk.

ValleyGirl - Reviews
 Amazon or Vudu
This is a musical remake of the 1983 classic. Okay, maybe calling it a classic is a bit much, but it does have its devoted fans and I’m not sure how they will feel about it being turned into a musical. There is only one review on Rotten Tomatoes and it is negative, so that’s not a good sign. On the other hand, it does have more pre-release buzz than most of the rest of this week’s list.

Capone - No Reviews - Official Site
 Intrigo: Dear Agnes - Reviews - Amazon 4K UHD VOD, Amazon VOD, or Vudu
Capone doesn’t come out until Tuesday, so it has time to earn some reviews, but its buzz is much quieter than a film with its cast should be.
